The minerals dissolved in the water that are most abundant are the bicarbonates, sulfates and chlorides present as Ca, Mg and Na, in the form of mixtures with their respective anions and cations. Each of these salts attributes certain characteristics to the water, highlighting the calcium and magnesium hardness, their sum is the total hardness. Some salts of the total hardness are the cause of the undesirable encrustations.
